Esteban Urbieta war born in 1973 in the town of Juchitan, Oaxaca. After studying at the Instituto de Bellas Artes at the University of Oaxaca, as well as at the Taller Tamayo, Esteban devoted a good deal of time studying contemporary Japanese painting, both in Japan and in Oaxaca under the artists Takeda and Miyazaki.
Esteban was a friend and student of the late Alejandro Santiago. He has exhibited extensively both home and abroad.
